Protect Your Garage with Garage Bumper Blocks
September 5, 2011 No CommentsGarages are never space for cars only. The mower and garden equipment, children’s bikes, repair tools, etc. usually reside in front of the car. Garage bumpers are a must if both the car and miscellany are to be kept scratch and dent free.
A wide variety of garage stops are available to save the new teenage driver in the family, the Mom who needs to deal with a fussy toddler just as its time to park or even Dad on the cell phone with work, from crashing into the storage space. The family doesn’t need a concrete curb like the parking blocks in most public lots. Rubber parking blocks are easily purchased which are sturdy, don’t crack or break, never need replacement, and are gentler on tires and bumpers than cement.
Rubber garage stops can be used for indoor and outdoor parking facilities as well as personal garages. Each 6’ parking garage bumper is made from recycled scrap tires keeping those out of landfills. Colored reflective highway tape is molded directly into the rubber making them easily visible day or night. These stops are low profile so they won’t cause any damage to vehicles with low front ends. The fact that rubber is flexible means that these contour to uneven surfaces beneath them. They can also be easily moved, stored or relocated. These garage parking stops resist moisture, a wide variation in temperature, car oils, and ultraviolet light. They won’t warp, chip, rot or crack even when set up outdoors. Their light weight means that one person can install them quite easily. The standard size for a full car width rubber bumper is 6′ (L) x 6″ (W) x 4″ (H) weighing about 34 lbs. A single wheel parking block is 22″ (L) x 6″ (W) x 4″ (H) weighing about 10 lbs. each. No mounting hardware is needed for single wheel stops.
Installation is required for full sized garage parking blocks especially if used in parking complexes. One-half inch diameter holes need to be drilled through the product’s holes 3-4” deep into asphalt paving. A 14” long rebar spike is then driven into the hole. If the stops are being installed on a concrete surface, metal shields and lag bolts are necessary. Half-inch or 5/8” lag bolts, six inches long secure the garage stops. Pilot holes need to be drilled through the product’s installation holes. Remove the garage bumper and re-drill the holes the diameter and depth necessary to include the metal shield height. Position the metal shields. After installing the metal shields, reposition the stop and bolt it down with 6” long lag bolts. Once they have been properly installed the rubber garage bumpers provide gentle, secure bumpers for many years to come.
